Big Canyon Residence

Newport Beach
About This Residence

Architectural Vision, Realized in Wood

The Big Canyon Residence is one of H & J Cabinets' most celebrated collaborations — a home conceived by the renowned architect Eric Olsen, brought to interior life by the designers at M. Elle Design, and constructed with exacting care by Patterson Homes. Nestled within the prestigious Big Canyon community of Newport Beach, this estate demanded cabinetry capable of holding its own against the architectural ambition of the surrounding space.

The cabinetry throughout reflects the finest traditions of traditional custom cabinetry — raised-panel doors in premium hardwood, hand-rubbed finishes, and construction methods refined over thirty-five years of craft. Every detail, from the moulding profiles to the stile-and-rail proportions, was calibrated to the architecture it inhabits. H & J's framed construction method ensures doors and drawers stay precisely aligned for decades, even as the home settles through Southern California seasons.

Material selection was paramount. Working closely with the design team, H & J selected premium hardwoods and furniture-grade plywoods that complement the home's warm stone and metal palette. Kitchen cabinetry anchors each room with quiet authority — refined enough in detail to reward close inspection, substantial enough to serve generations. Integrated lighting, custom hardware profiles, and bespoke storage solutions were each treated as design decisions rather than afterthoughts.

The result is a home where the cabinetry feels as inevitable as the architecture itself — not installed, but belonging. If you are planning a project of similar ambition in Newport Beach or across Orange County, we welcome the conversation.
